24 Hour Urine Collections
Throughout the collection period, drink the same amount of liquids you would normally consume, unless otherwize instructed by your doctor. Avoid alcoholic beverages, vitamins and other medication (if possible) for at least 24 hours prior to the collection and during collection period.
Empty the bladder when arising in the morning of the day you start the collection, and discard this urine. Note the date and time on the label of the container. From this time on, collect all the urine passed through the day and night in a clean container and pour it into the 24 hour urine container. Do not void directly into the 24 hour container, which may contain a preservative, and could cause injury.
Make the final collection 24 hours from the time the bladder was emptied at the beginning of the collection period. Note the time and date on the label, along with your name.
Keep the collected urine refrigerated and submit it to the laboratory as soon as possible after the collection is completed.
