Collect the sample by masturbation following a three day period of abstinence. The sample should be collected in a clean glass or plastic container provided by your doctor or the laboratory. Take the specimen to the laboratory between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Refrigerate the specimen.

Powder or lubricants involved with condoms or their manufacture are often actively spermicidal, which makes them unsatisfactory for collection or transport. Do not use condoms, lubricants or creams.

Keep the specimen as near body temperature as possible, allowing no temperature extremes. Deliver the specimen to the laboratory within thirty minutes. Note the collection time.
