Be a Volunteer at GSHCS

Volunteering helps you feel good about yourself and your community.  It offers you the opportunity to help others, make new friends, and give back to your community.  Good Shepherd Health Care System depends on volunteers to assist our patients, their families, and GSHCS staff.  Volunteer hours represent gifts of kindness, compassion, and talent.

Our Volunteer Department consists of three separate groups of volunteers:

Auxiliary Members:  each year, over 80 members of the Good Shepherd Medical Center Auxiliary provide valuable services to many areas of GSHCS.  Some of those services include:
  • Escorting Services
  • Gift Shop
  • ER/Front Lobby Receptionist
  • Day Surgery Receptionist
  • Education Department Receptionist/Assistant
  • Clerical
  • GSHCS Tours
  • Video Cart
  • Health Fairs
  • Thrift Shop
  • Fundraising

Hospice Volunteers:  Vange John Memorial Hospice has over 30 volunteers providing services for our clients, their families, and the surrounding community through:
  • Respite Care
  • Bereavement Support
  • Clerical/Administrative
  • Fundraising

Junior Volunteers:  Our Auxiliary-sponsored Junior Volunteer Program offers opportunities for students from grades 7 – 12 to volunteer at GSHCS.  Services that Junior Volunteers take part in include:
  • Employee Birthday Balloon Project
  • Video Cart
  • Assistant Receptionists/Escorts
  • Clerical

During fiscal year July 1, 2004 – June 30, 2005, the volunteers donated nearly 19,000 hours of service.  They also provided scholarships to individuals pursuing the medical field, purchased medical equipment for the hospital, and provided financial support for the Hospice Bereavement Programs and indigent care needs.
