Lactation Consulting Services offers vital resource for mothers and babies

Good Shepherd’s Lactation Consulting Services provides solutions for mothers and babies experiencing challenges with the breastfeeding process.

Lactation Services offers individual breastfeeding assistance to address many issues, including:

  • Baby has difficulty “latching on”
  • Sore nipples
  • Breast refusal
  • Engorgement
  • Multiple births
  • Low milk supply
  • Infant in NICU
  • Yeast infections (such as thrush)
  • History of breast surgery
  • Returning to work

 Each consultation includes:

  • A check of the baby’s weight
  • Observation of a breast feeding session
  • Suggestions for treatment or correction of breastfeeding issues
  • Information on breast pumps and other breastfeeding equipment
  • Discussion of any medication or treatments to bring up with a doctor
  • Answers to any questions

Good Shepherd’s Lactation Consulting Services are provided by Glaya Baker and LaRae Claybrook, registered nurses with international certification in lactation consultation—the only such nurses in Umatilla and Morrow Counties. The service was developed after Good Shepherd Family Care Center manager Kyle Furukawa noticed an increase in new mothers calling for help with breastfeeding issues.

Translation services are available in this program. For questions or further information, call our staff at (541) 667-3508 or e-mail to lactationservices@gshealth.org

Services are provided suite 103 of the Good Shepherd Medical Plaza at the north (Elm Ave) end of our campus.
