Diabetes Education For new diabetics or those whose diabetes is not well-controlled, this is a program of self management education taught by Diane Brown, RN, CDE and Nancy Gummer, RD, LD, CDE. It deals with complication prevention and treatment for all types of diabetes, teaching balancing medication, exercise and meal planning for blood glucose control. Patients learn how to do blood glucose monitoring, how to do effective insulin administration and adjustment, and problem-solving skill for lifetime self-management. Classes are in four sessions over a two month period. For information, please call 541-667-3517. The American Diabetes Association recognizes this education service as meeting the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education. Individualized Wellness Assessment: schedule your 30-minute consultation with the Wellness Coordinator and receive a complete health/fitness assessment. Included are: health risk appraisal, cholesterol & glucose screening, body composition, and exercise prescription. You will receive an individualized, comprehensive 20-page report, pertinent health education, and a consultation with our Wellness Coordinator, Diana Price, MS. Elm (across from the hospital)Info: Call 541-667-3543 Safety Classes Safety classes are offered through Safe Communities, a collaboration among Good Shepherd, the Oregon Department of Transportation, and our community partners developing safety strategies for pedestrians, drivers, cyclists, water sport enthusiasts and skateboarders. Safe Communities focuses on traffic-related safety strategies, offering classes and events including bike rodeos, car seat clinics, motorized wheelchair safety checks, grandparent car seat installation training, safety belt diversion classes, Walk and Bike to School events, parent and teen driving safety presentations, and more.
