Pre-Admission Testing Day

Come to the Ambulatory Surgery Center on the east side of Good Shepherd Medical Center.  Bring the following with you:

  • Information/Physician Orders
  • All insurance papers and cards
  • List of medications and dosages you are currently taking (or bring the medication bottles with you).
  • Information on allergies, medical history, and testing that has been done in the last month such as x-rays, EKG, and laboratory tests.

A Registered Nurse will interview you about your medical history, give you instructions, and answer your questions about your procedure.

If necessary, pre-procedure studies (x-ray, EKG, Lab, and any other testing necessary) will be completed at this time.

For All Procedures

  • If you take regular medications, you should ask your physician or pre-admittance R.N. whether to take them the day of your procedure.
  • If you wear contact lenses, bring a container for the lenses or wear your glasses on the day of your procedure.
  • You may want to bring blankets or pillows for your trip home.
  • If you develop a cold, persistent cough, or any other health-related problem, or if you need to cancel your procedure, please notify your physician.
  • Do not bring any valuables, credit cards, money, or jewelry.  If you need to bring these with you, a family member or friend will be asked to keep them for you, or we can place them in the hospital safe while you are a patient at the hospital.
  • Remember to bring any papers your physician has given you to the hospital.

For Surgical Procedures

You cannot have anything to eat or drink after midnight the night before your surgery.  This includes water, chewing tobacco, candy, etc.  This is for your own safety.  It prevents you from vomiting and breathing the stomach contents into your lungs during surgery.

Patients who plan to go home the day of surgery must have a responsible person to drive them home and be available for them.

While every effort is made to maintain a timely procedure schedule, emergencies and unavoidable delays may occur.

We encourage your questions; appreciate your cooperation, and thank you for choosing us as your health care provider.
