Speech-Language Pathologist provides evaluation and treatment in communication areas related to speech, language, cognition, voice, oral motor/sensory function, and fluency. Individuals are served to facilitate functional communication.

If an individual is not able to achieve independence in communication, speech therapy can offer education, counseling and strategies for both the individual and his/her family for the most effective method of communication.

The department also provides evaluation and treatment of swallowing disorders, including safe swallow techniques, pharyngeal strengthening maneuvers, safe texture management, and teaching of compensatory skills to achieve least restrictive diet possible. Adults can repair neurological damage from a head injury or stroke, improving their memory, attention and ability to express ideas and needs. Infants and children can receive speech therapy services for delayed speech and language development as a supplement to services received in the school district. Evaluation appointments can be made on a referral from a physician.

    • Swallowing
      • Oral-motor and clinical swallow assessments determine the risk of aspiration and if a Modified Barium Swallow Study is necessitated. The Modified Barium Swallow Study allows assessment of the anatomy and physiology of the oral and pharyngeal swallow and determination of proper diet and compensatory swallow techniques.
