A NEW ELECTRONIC HEALTH RECORD SYSTEM

Good Shepherd Health Care System is committed to
implementing and maintaining a fully-functional and
integrated Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, which
optimizes the ability to deliver better care and measurable
outcomes to patients. GSHCS utilized Meditech for many
years before partnering with Legacy Health to transition
to Epic which is prevalent in our region. This allowed for
ease of EHR flow to be on the same system as our fellow
hospitals.  Epic go-live took place on November 3, 2018, a
transition that had been carefully planned and prepared
for.  This was an organization-wide, all-consuming task with
significant infrastructure enhancements and interfaces to
be built along with supporting and complimentary software
systems. An all-encompassing, in-depth training was
carried out for all users as this new EHR adoption was truly
a change system-wide in the way medicine is practiced,

impacting physicians, nurses, pharmacists and caregivers at
all levels.

We are coming up on one year past go-live. The ability
to transfer information between facilities has been
excellent and patient access to their records has been
greatly improved.  With change comes the opportunity
for continued improvements. Our Epic Governance
Committee has focused on enhancement projects to
improve many facets of the Epic integration with our
services. Our Physician Electronic Health Record (PEHR)
Committee (consisting of healthcare providers and staff
that is representative of their specialty and peers) has
been instrumental in collaboration to ensure current EHR
practices are directly aligned with excellent patient care.
We look forward to maximizing what Epic can do to better
serve our patients and community.
