• Recognized in 2019 as a Top Workplace in
Oregon by The Oregonian/OregonLive. This
award is given based on employee engagement
and satisfaction with the work environment
within the organization.
• In conjunction with Legacy Health, we
transitioned our Electronic Health Record
System (EHR) from Meditech to Epic on
November 3, 2018. This was an organization-
wide, all-consuming task with significant
infrastructure enhancements and interfaces to
be built with supporting and complimentary
software systems, including an in-depth training
for all users.
• Earned DNV-GL accreditation with full NIAHO
and ISO compliance.
• Successfully recruited new physicians and key
mid-levels to the community (see Good Medicine
section of this report).
• Implemented ADP, a new Payroll and Human
Resources Information System that supports
enhanced reporting and payroll calculation
flexibility – especially relating to the nuances of
healthcare personnel and our state statutory
requirements. This new system required
extensive training and infrastructure changes.
• Successfully opened the Good Shepherd Family
Health Center in April 2019 with Angie Hays, FNP
and JoDee Williams, DNP, in the former Women’s
Center space. The Family Health Center is a
primary care-centered facility, offering a wide
variety of services and in-office procedures.
Accomplishments
• Launched a new comprehensive Physical
Medicine & Rehabilitation Center with Physiatrist
Mariam Washington, DO & Chiropractor
Christopher Scott, DC at the helm.
• Opened the Good Shepherd Home Health Clinic
in Pendleton, Oregon. Home Health and Hospice
staff traveled a total of 86,105 miles, completing
5,368 in-home visits since acquiring patients in
the Pendleton and surrounding areas.
• Successfully partnered with the Hermiston
School District (HSD) to open the HSD Wellness
Clinic with rotating physicians from our Good
Shepherd Urgent Care.
• Remodeled the Diagnostic Imaging (DI) Lobby/
Waiting Area and Laboratory (Lab) Draw Station
– a major renovation project to improve patient
flow and access to DI and Lab services. Installed
new outdoor wayfinding signage throughout
campus. Replaced all in-room patient televisions
with high definition units.
• Received four Summit Award Nominations at the
2019 Health Care Service Excellence Conference,
all of which earned a Pinnacle Award (top three
in the category):

Pediatrics
• In December 2018, we expanded the Urgent
Care to 7 days/week coverage to better
accommodate the needs of our community.
• Good Shepherd Medical Group again achieved
the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System
(MIPS) “exceptional performance status” for
2018, attesting with 93/100 points for Year II of
the program.
• GSHCS continues as an active partner of the
Oregon Graduate Medical Education Consortium
(OGMEC) – an organization designed to facilitate
and develop a Family Practice rural residency
program in rural Eastern Oregon.
• Respiratory Therapy now works with all units to
provide point of care testing and results at the
bedside through Respiratory EPOC.
• Increased patient demand was met efficiently
with the addition of two new Speech Language
Pathologists and a new manager of the Speech
Therapy Department.
• Retail Pharmacy prescription volume increased
by 6% and we established satellite pharmacy
services to Regency Nursing. We changed our
pharmacy benefits manager to SelectHealth,
which has resulted in significant (up to 20%)
savings in our medication expenses.
• Expanded ultrasound coverage to 5 days per
week in the Good Shepherd Women’s Center. A
new Ultrasound unit was added, which is specific
to our high-detail MFM scans performed in the
Good Shepherd Women’s Center.
• Assembled, tested and installed 55 new Hospira
Infusion pumps in our Treatment Center. We also
instituted a new nail/foot program with certified
nurses, a new manometry program (measures
the strength and muscle coordination of your
esophagus when you swallow) with certified
nurses and a new contact casting service
(utilizing a special kind of cast for wound care
treatment).
• Our Maintenance/Bio-Med staff performed over
6,447 work orders with a staff of 10 individuals.
We received 1,139,417 phone calls and, with call-
outs, handled a total of 1.6 million phone calls.
We monitor and maintain 105 campus security
cameras and 208 doors.
• Added additional translation devices across
campus to facilitate foreign language translation
with patients.
• Expanded our Certified Diabetes Education
program and encouraged healthier eating
through our community education ACT program,
available at a highly-subsidized rate to our
community.
• Supported upgrades to the Maintenance work
order system, InteleRad test PACS system, PACS
Ultra gateway router and the Powerscribe/360
Radiologist dictation system.
• Provided implementation and technical support
for the Ironbow Hospitalist Tele-medicine system,
used primarily in the Emergency Department.
• Expanded CareVan services to include
longer hours and more transports with both
volunteer and paid drivers to meet the needs of
community ridership requests.
• Auxiliary of Volunteers awarded $10,000 of
scholarships to five students pursuing medical
education. $23,000 was given to the Good
Shepherd Community Health Foundation for
medical equipment.
