Non-profit foundation work has
been very challenging during
this fiscal year due to the impact
of COVID on our communities,
businesses, and individuals. However,
Good Shepherd Community Health
Foundation has been able to adhere
to its commitment to continue our
grant process for viable health-
related projects and award medical
scholarships to local students.
This has allowed us to successfully
accomplish in our philanthropic
goals for fiscal year 2021-2022.
Christmas Spirit Awards were
presented to community recipients
by the Foundation in December
of 2021. Those honored were Tom
and Abbie Ditton, and Scott and
Melissa Purswell. These individuals
were nominated by local community
members and chosen by the board
as recipients who exemplify the
Christmas Spirit — the spirit of
giving throughout the year.
The Festival of Trees is a partnership
with Hermiston Kiwanis Club and one
of the most elegant and anticipated
events of each year. In December
2021, the Hermiston Festival of Trees
was no exception. This event was
an immediate sell-out and well-
received by the community. The
evening was a hybrid event of online
bidding on trees, wreaths, baskets
and stockings. It raised over $70,000,
of which $35,250 was allocated to
the Foundation as its share of the
proceeds. These funds were used
to supplement the awards given to
our local communities in the form of
grants and medical scholarships.
Grants are awarded each year to
qualified non-profit organizations
to benefit the health needs of
our local communities. In fiscal
year 2021-2022, grants totaling
$269,773 were awarded to twenty
organizations approved by the
board. This included $63,970 given
from the Mary Ellen Paul Trust to six
previously designated organizations
for health and educational purposes.
These grant and scholarship awards
are a significant contribution to
our communities and the primary
purpose of our charitable giving.
