Out of adversity comes opportunity. For more than two years, Good Shepherd Health
Care System has taken the best shot that COVID could give. Many times this year, myself
and the Good Shepherd leadership team walked around and talked with our amazing
staff. I watched our staff take care of the sickest of the sick. In an interview this past
year, I was asked what was so unique about the Good Shepherd staff. My response was
very simple — “they showed up!” I could not be more proud of all our professionals.
Through it all, we continued to evaluate the opportunity on how we can better serve
you — our patients.
The Good Shepherd evaluation starts with our Community Health Needs Assessment
(CHNA) and the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP). Several of our healthcare
leaders and Trustees evaluated a healthcare survey conducted recently by our partner.

From that we continue to focus on behavioral health, obesity and overall health. With these priorities (that are
also incorporated into our Strategic Plan), the CHNA & CHIP provide the road map that helps us navigate the
adversities and find opportunities, so we can better serve our communities.
Over the last 12 months, Good Shepherd Health Care System has continued to look for opportunities with our
communities at the heart of every decision. These opportunities focus on investing in our equipment, our facilities
and our people.
The investment in our equipment includes the Orthopedics Mako Robot that provides precision measurements
when doing joint replacement procedures, a da Vinci Surgical Robot that promotes faster healing, a new state-of-
the-art magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) digital imaging system and, during a time when oxygen was needed the
most, Good Shepherd upgraded from a 1500-gallon oxygen tank to a 3000-gallon tank with a 1500-gallon reserve.
The investment in our facility included new flooring, wall protection in our Critical Care Unit (CCU), a remodeled
space for our new MRI and an upgrade for our Oncology/Treatment complex — just to name only a few of our
many projects over the last year.
Finally, the investment in our staff includes a training program for our medical assistants that better serve our
clinic patients. We hired and trained additional personnel, so the patient experience is improved. Finally, we
ensured our pay practices are competitive so we can retain our incredibly talented healthcare professionals.
Good Shepherd will continue with these investments. The future relocation of our Urgent Care Center to the
former Toyota property on Hwy. 395, a remodel of the Good Shepherd Medical Plaza and adding additional
services are those opportunities we believe will better serve our communities.
The future is bright for Good Shepherd Health Care System. Thank you for being part of our future.
