Nursing’s (OCN) “RN Well-being
Program” grant. This grant, titled
“Employee Well-being Improvement
Project,” aims to address specific
well-being challenges amongst
healthcare workers, such as the
consistent downplaying of personal
needs and stress management
in nurses and support staff.
GSHCS was one of 18 healthcare
organizations to receive a grant
totaling $49,885.

In the most recent survey conducted
by the Oregon Center for Nursing,
97% of 5,000 Oregon nurses
reported experiencing a work-
related stressor. The top three
stressors identified were heavy or
increased workload, uncertainty
about when healthcare will settle
down, and burnout overall.

Good Shepherd utilized the grant
funds by directing all toward a
contractual partnership with a local
Qualified Mental Health Professional
(QMHP)—Community Counseling
Solutions (CCS). This QMHP
performs individual counseling
sessions and leads group
counseling sessions on-site at
the hospital, with virtual options
available to staff working remotely.
The goal is for Good Shepherd
employees to develop personal
coping mechanisms to handle
workplace stressors.

Employee Wellness

Our employees work hard to
support Good Shepherd’s mission,
and in turn Good Shepherd provides
our employees with the support
they need. One way that we support
our staff is through our Wellness
Program which offers health
coaching, counseling, fasting blood
work, body composition, wellness
challenges, group counseling,
mindfulness sessions and even on-
site yoga! We also have a Wellness
Center with free 24/7 access to
cardio and weight machines with
three workout rooms.

Our board certified Health Coach
Kristin Mitas, NBC-HWC, is a trusted
partner and mentor who empowers
our staff to identify and achieve
their goals around the eight
dimensions of wellbeing: physical,
emotional, social, financial,
occupational, intellectual,
environmental and spiritual.

REPS: Resiliency Education

Peer Support

Through a partnership with
Community Counseling Solutions,
Good Shepherd has developed
the REPS program, Resiliency
Education Peer Support. Working
in this program is Liz Courtney, a
Qualified Mental Health Professional
with over 15 years of experience.
She specializes in mental health,
resilience, and alcohol and drug
counseling and has the tools to
support all staff and volunteers.
