religious/spiritual support, and providing help for specific 
symptoms such as trouble breathing, constipation, and 
restlessness/agitation. 

— Our Medical/Surgical patients rated their experience 

particularly well in terms of receiving information about 
help available after discharge, getting help using the 
restroom in a timely manner, and the quality of the 
meals provided.

— Our Nephrology Clinic patients rated their experiences 

highest in terms of being treated with courtesy and 
respect by staff.

— Our Podiatry clinic patients scored their experiences 

among the highest in the nation in terms of receiving 
easy to understand instructions and their ability to get 
an appointment as soon as they needed it.

— Speech Therapy patients and parents overwhelmingly 

agreed they would recommend us to their family and 
friends and rated their care particularly well in terms of 

ease of scheduling appointments at convenient times 
and staff’s concern for their comfort, privacy. They also 
rated their experience particularly high in terms of trust 
in the skills of staff, receiving good explanations relating 
to their treatments and progress.

•GSHCS was included in a “Top 350 Hospitals for Nurse

Communication” article in Becker’s in November of 2023,
which attracted attention from local newspapers who also
ran stories on GSHCS patient experience performance.

•As of November 9, 2023, GSHCS was listed as a “birthing-

friendly hospital” by CMS on their Care Compare website.
The pink baby and mother icon tells patients that GSHCS
is committed to providing high-quality maternity care
and participate in a perinatal quality improvement
collaborative program and implement evidence-based
care to improve maternal health.

•Our Patient Relations Coordinators spoke to over 300

patients referred to the Customer Experience Line to
share compliments or concerns about their experience.

Great Catch Awards

The GSHCS Great Catch award is presented to staff members who demonstrate their commitment to safety 
by speaking up to prevent potential harm to a patient or fellow employee. Our goal is to highlight the power of 
an individual’s ability to promote a culture of quality and safety. Awardees are selected on a quarterly basis in
