Are you looking to lose weight?
Are you looking to improve your blood pressure or cholesterol?
Are you trying to prevent diabetes or other chronic conditions?
Are you tired of restrictive diet programs or programs that want you to buy supplements or shakes?
Are you ready to learn how to eat real food and reach your goals?

The ACT program can help do you all of this and more!

The program was created by our team of registered dietitian nutritionists with the goal of empowering you with the information and tools necessary for you to make healthy lifestyle choices every day. The ACT program is designed to help you reach a healthy weight, manage or prevent chronic disease, and improve your overall health and quality of life! The support from our registered dietitian nutritionists, as well as your fellow group class participants, will help encourage you to continue on your health journey long past the end of the 9 week program.

In the program you will learn how food affects your body and metabolism and will learn about the profound effect changes to food, activity, sleep and stress can have on your health and wellness. We focus on eating real food every day that the whole family will love; no special shakes or supplements to purchase. In the classes we focus not only on what to eat, but how and why we eat.

The program has 3 goals:

    • Achieve lifestyle changes as you attend 9 weekly group education classes
    • Conquer old habits and gain independence with individual nutrition counseling sessions with a registered dietitian nutritionist
    • Thrive in your new lifestyle as you practice maintaining healthy habits

Class topics include: role of macronutrients (carbs, protein and healthy fats) in nutrition and metabolism, role of hormones in nutrition and metabolism, healthy nutrition guidelines, meal planning, grocery shopping, exercise, mindful eating, and dining out. In addition to these group topics, during individual sessions, our registered dietitian nutritionists can help you manage your specific health conditions and tailor all the information to your personal situation.

Two of the nine group classes are food tasting / cooking demonstration classes, co-taught by a chef from the Good Shepherd café and our dietitians. In these classes you will get to see and try a variety of healthy recipes for meals, snacks, and even dessert! These classes are always a participant favorite!

Cost:
You only pay $135 for this program, which is valued at $1,135. This is thanks to a grant from Good Shepherd Health Care System that covers 90% of the costs. Due to the generosity of the grant, insurance is not billed for this program. The $135 fee includes all supplies, group classes, and individual appointments. Payment plans are available.

New classes begin multiple times per year. Please call 541-667-3517 for current schedule options.
