A referral is not required for nutrition counseling & education services, although your health care provider may also refer you.
When you come for your first appointment, one of our Registered Dietitian Nutritionists will complete an assessment and work with you to make a nutrition plan that will help you reach your health goals. This initial appointment will usually last about an hour.
You may come back for follow-up appointments as long as is necessary or helpful to you. You will work with your dietitian to decide on the number and/or frequency of follow-up appointments. Follow-up appointments last about 30 min.
Thanks to a generous grant from Good Shepherd Health Care System, they cover 90% of nutrition therapy services. Therefore, you only pay 10% of the cost of your visit; insurance is not billed for nutrition visits.

We do not bill insurance for nutrition counseling appointments but can provide you with documentation to request reimbursement from your insurance. You can pay for nutrition counseling appointments with your HSA or FSA. Please note, a referral is required for patients being seen for chronic kidney disease or diabetes education since insurance is billed for these 2 conditions.
