Chief Operating Officer / Chief Financial Officer

Jonathan’s journey to becoming the Chief Operating Officer / Chief Financial Officer of Good Shepherd Health Care System is a testament to his dedication, institutional loyalty, and expertise in healthcare administration. Since coming to the organization in 2004, he, his wife, and their family of nine children have developed a deep connection to GSHCS. Whether leading mission efforts for two years in Southern Chile, providing pastoral leadership to his local church congregations, or giving community service as a member of the local municipality’s finance committee, his high personal standards and positive character attributes have earned him the trust of many fellow community members.

He has a bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration and leadership. His passion for healthcare led him to continue toward a master’s in healthcare administration. Jonathan’s career began at GSHCS as a financial analyst, where his exceptional financial acumen and work ethic quickly became evident. Over the years, Jonathan’s commitment to the hospital’s mission and his ability to navigate complex financial challenges earned him several promotions and significant organizational responsibility.

During his tenure, he successfully streamlined many of the hospital’s financial operations, optimized budgets, and implemented cost-effective operational strategies that have contributed to unprecedented positive operational margins. Throughout his career, his leadership played a pivotal role in securing funding for much-needed service line expansion and modernization projects. His contract negotiation skills and reimbursement knowledge have ensured that the hospital can steadily meet the evolving healthcare needs of the community.

Jonathan is passionate about patient experience and is a frequent contributor to patient experience programs. In 2018, Jonathan received a Pinnacle Award for Empowering Management by Custom Learning Systems. His nomination by one of his employees reads in part: “What Jonathan displays is different from other leaders. He really helps us reach further and push ourselves further than we ever thought we could, and when we reach our goal, it makes it that much more of a blessing.”

As Jonathan takes on the role of COO/CFO, he brings a wealth of institutional experience and a keen understanding of the financial and operational aspects of healthcare administration, including budgeting, forecasting, market share analysis, Lean process improvement, project management, and reimbursement. In fact, his analytical expertise has allowed him to replicate many processes previously performed by outside consultants, saving the hospital substantial amounts of operating income. His vision is to maintain the hospital’s commitment to providing high-quality care while ensuring financial sustainability.
