  • Good Shepherd Board of Trustees Announces Interim CEO

    Emmett C. Schuster, MHSA, ACHE

HERMISTON, OR – Good Shepherd Health Care System (GSHCS) Board of Trustees announced the appointment of Emmett C. Schuster, MHSA, ACHE, as interim CEO, effective February 13, 2023. Schuster is not a candidate for the permanent CEO position.

“The Board of Trustees is pleased to welcome Mr. Schuster as our Interim CEO. He comes from a rural background and has significant experience at rural hospitals. In recent years, he has served as the interim leader at small hospitals in the Northwest, so we are confident he will be a good fit for our community. Good Shepherd will be in good hands as we complete our search for a permanent CEO,” stated Board of Trustees Chair Sue Daggett.

Schuster has had a successful career as hospital CEO for over 25 years leading rural health care facilities (less than 50 beds) and Critical Access Hospitals (up to 25 beds). He obtained his Master of Health Services Administration from the University of Kansas and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE). Schuster retired from the U.S. Army as a Colonel after 30 years, where he served with honor during Operation Iraqi Freedom, Desert Shield, and Desert Storm.

“While researching for our interview, I was very impressed with the large array of services Good Shepherd provides to its community. Good Shepherd is a forward-looking organization. There are many great services available to the public. I look forward to getting to know the Good Shepherd team and the communities it serves. I am privileged to be asked to help keep the efforts moving forward,” stated Schuster.

Current GSHCS CEO Brian Sims echoed Schuster’s statement, “I could not be more honored than to have someone of Emmett’s caliber to follow me. Along with our Executive Team, Emmett will continue pursuing the projects already in place.” Sims’ last day at Good Shepherd is Friday, February 10, 2023.
