Good Shepherd Health Care System Partners with Legacy Health Tele-Baby Program to Save Lives – Virtually
HERMISTON, OR – On Tuesday, January 19, 2016 Good Shepherd Health Care System’s (GSHCS) Family Birth Center orchestrated a mock code drill with Legacy Health’s Tele-Baby program.The mock drill was focused on neonatal resuscitation and consultation services, which went live in the Family Birth Center on Thursday, January 21, 2016.
According to Family Birth Center Manager, Kyle Furukawa, RNC, “Staff participated in an in-depth orientation of equipment and services that will be provided by Legacy Health’s Randall Children’s Hospital (RCH) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) through the Tele-Baby program. When neonatal resuscitation support is needed, we can immediately tap into neonatology experts at RCH who will give our team expert leadership and remain with us via Tele-Baby to help us maintain stabilization support. If a transfer to RCH is needed, the neonatologist will help us with the process to get more urgent care for the critically-ill newborn. This service is also available to us 24/7 whenever a neonatal resuscitation is needed.”
As part of the Tele-Baby program, Legacy Health will provide continual clinical education and training, which will ultimately have a positive effect on teamwork – with the goal of an easily identifiable leader, smoother resuscitations, faster interventions, decreased time to transport. This will improve staff confidence, and most importantly – outcomes and family satisfaction!
