Good Shepherd Health Care System President and Chief Executive Officer Named as One of 50 Rural Hospital CEO’s to Know
Good Shepherd Health Care System (GSHCS) President and CEO, Dennis Burke
HERMISTON, OR – Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, Cleveland Clinic, and Mount Sinai typically describe the pinnacles of modern healthcare performance and ingenuity. With the fact the aforementioned institutions are out of reach for many rural American’s, communities come to rely on local hospitals and health systems for high-quality health care. To honor the leaders behind these rural institutions, Becker’s Hospital Review has named 50 hospital presidents and CEO’s to its CEOs to Know list.
Included in this list is Good Shepherd Health Care System (GSHCS) President and CEO, Dennis Burke. Mr. Burke was recognized for demonstrating dedication to providing high-quality, accessible health care services to the community served by GSHCS. In November 2015, GSHCS was recognized by iVantage Health Analytics and the National Organization of State Office of Rural Health for overall excellence in outcomes and financial strength, reflecting top quartile performance among all acute care hospitals in the nation. Mr. Burke is currently serving the American Hospital Association’s Small and Rural Governing Council as an alternate. His term is not set to expire until 2018.
When asked about his inclusion in such an esteemed list, Mr. Burke said, “I am humbled and honoured at what has been accomplished throughout my career at Good Shepherd Health Care System. We have experienced tremendous growth over the years, both in services we provide and physicians who have chosen to practice medicine here, allowing us to continue provide the best possible care for the communities we serve. Though I am the head of the organization, I could not accomplish this without an outstanding team of caregivers, and by caregiver I mean everyone from a physician to our custodians, each working together to impact and make a difference for the patients that seek our care.”
For this list, “rural” was defined by Becker’s Hospital Review as being located outside a major metropolitan area or healthcare hub. Leaders were selected based on rural healthcare awards received, rural healthcare committee and board involvement, regional and national leadership positions held and organizational performance. Nominations were also considered.
